The following photographs were taken in the Persian Gulf in 1990-91.  I'm not sure which ones I took and which ones were taken by Steve Mayoral, who was the loader on A31 -- I've got pictures from both of us in my album, so he gets credit for any of these that are his.....

I was in Third Platoon, Alpha Company, 4th Battalion, 64th Armor.  We deployed to Saudi Arabia in August of 1990, only a few short days after Iraq invaded Kuwait.

Here is part of third platoon -- from left to right, 2nd Lieutenant Kirk C. Dorr, our Platoon Leader, then Sergeants John Wheatley, Sue Sue Li and Charles Griego.  They are standing in front of our tent at some godawful factory outside Dhahran only a couple of days after our arrival in country in August 1990.

Here is Staff Sergeant Li, clearly wondering why he ever left Samoa.   SSG Li cristened us the Ufa platoon, which as I understand it is translated in english alternatively as "asshole" as in the "asshole platoon" or as a cheer, somewhat like saying "Fuck You!"  As a platoon, if we were ever called to attention, we shouted out "Ufa."

Sergeant First Class John Lino was my platoon sergeant and tank commander.  SFC Lino is Hawaian, had spent years on M1 tanks. Last time I saw him he was happily at Fort Stewart, Georgia, restoring cars on the side.  That was in 1993 -- we've lost track since then, unfortunately.
